DAVID WELCOMES LORD CHIEF JUSTICE REVIEW OF COURTS
Wednesday, 27 October 2010 10:58
David Heath has today welcomed news that the Lord Chief Justice has recommended that the Frome and Trowbridge Courts remain open. The two courts were under consultation for closure, with services being moved to Yeovil and Chippenham. Local MP David Heath has consistently campaigned against these closures.
The Lord Chief Justice’s response to the consultation looked at the travel implications associated with moving the Court from Frome to Yeovil. He said “research suggests that to arrive at court for 10.00am would require getting a train from Frome at 06.56am, and arriving in Yeovil at 07.29am, as the next train would not get the attendee there on time.” He also considered the further implications of travel for people travelling from outside of Frome, from rural areas.
In response Mr Heath said: “I’ve been arguing against these plans, because quite simply, this would have produced great expense and inconvenience to people from the Frome area that need to use these courts. I am glad to see that the Lord Chief Chancellor has echoed the points that I have made throughout the consultative process.”
